La Casa del Rector, 4-star spa-hotel in Almagro Spain, recommends to visit the Cerro de la Encantada, an archaeological site.
The Cerro/Motilla de la Encantada ("hill of the enchanted") is an almost 800 meters high hill, located strategically over the valley of the Jabalón river and the natural path to the Sierra de Alcaraz and the Sierra Morena, through the Valley of Alcudia.
On the hill there is a funerary temple of the Bronze Age and it was habitat, necropolis and defensive construction, formed by a large wall with bastions.
In relation to other archaeological sites found in the area, this one has a special topographical situation and presents and varied grave goods.
Among the abundant archaeological material we'd like to mention various ceramic pans, polished axes, bracelets and pendants, buttons, arrowheads and bronze daggers.
This high situated settlement has been linked with an economy of livestock and pastoral character, but also with mining and trade.
Guided visits on Saturdays.
To visit, in the surroundings, the archaeological site of Oreto-Zuqueca, the sanctuary-hermitage, the Cerro de los Obispos (hill of the bishops) with Visigothic remains and the Roman bridge of Baebio.
